Booking a table at a restaurant gives you peace of mind. You will be guaranteed to be seated right away when you arrive. Not every dining establishment accepts reservations, but check first -- especially if you want to reserve for a special occasion, such as Valentine's Day. Treat a restaurant reservation as you would any other appointment. Call ahead if you will be more than 15 minutes late, or you might lose your table. If you can't make it, call as soon as possible to let the restaurant know. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Locate the restaurant's contact information on its website. Call during normal business hours and at least two days before your desired dining time. If you are reserving for a special occasion, or if it is a large party, call further in advance. Exclusive restaurants might require reservations as much as two weeks to a month or even longer in advance. Use your judgment.
2Tell the host or hostess that you would like to make a reservation. Supply the person with the necessary information. Typically, the restaurant will ask for your name, the time and date you want to reserve a table and the number of people in your party.
3Tell the hostess if there is a special place you would like to sit, such as next to a window or at a booth. Show up on time to the restaurant. You might lose your reservation and be forced to wait for a table if you are late.
