How to Make a Plasma Pedestal

Many love the look of a sleek plasma television hanging on the wall. However, due to wiring or wall construction constraints, this isn't always practical. A plasma television requires a solid foundation to support its weight and any other equipment you want mounted below. One of the more popular methods of building a DIY plasma stand is to use threaded rods and medium density fiberboard.

Cut the MDF shelves to the needed depth and width. Base the width on the total measurement of the components, center channel speaker, or the base of the plasma if you're not using any other components. The depth is based on the deepest audio/video component or the two times the depth of the plasma's base at minimum.

Paint or stain the shelves as desired. Wait the interval recommended by the manufacturer for paint or stain curing times. Drill a 1-inch hole 1 inch from the corner of each shelf after the coating has fully cured.

Rotate a nut, metal washer and rubber washer 1/2 inch from the ends of four of the threaded rods.

Slide the MDF panel chosen as the base shelf onto the four rods, with the rubber washers in direct contact with the bottom of the shelf. Slide a rubber washer, metal washer and nut to clamp the shelf with the first set of hardware.

Continue to add shelves in the same manner as the base until the desired height is achieved.
