A spring centerpiece dresses up any table, adds color to the room and brings the feeling of springtime indoors. An oval centerpiece displays well on a large rectangular surface such as a dining room table, coffee table or kitchen island. Mix and match pastel colors with bright, vivid spring colors to create a spring centerpiece. Place candles in the middle of the arrangement for a centerpiece that will become the focal point of any room.
Instructions
- 1
Select an oval shaped basket to use as the base of the centerpiece. The larger the basket is, the larger the overall arrangement will be. For a centerpiece that lays close to the tabletop choose a shallow basket.
2Pick a candle for the middle of the centerpiece. Decorative candle holders are available in all different styles, colors, shapes and sizes and can be found in department stores, craft stores or gift shops. Instead of a candle holder, substitute taper candles, a large pillar candle, or several pillar candles of varying heights.
3Choose spring flowers for the centerpiece. Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, lilacs, primrose, daisies and peonies are just a few of the many spring flowers. Select an assortment of flowers in several sizes and colors that complement one another. You will need at least two of each flower so that both sides of the arrangement are identical.
4Buy rectangular, flat floral foam slightly larger than the basket. Cut the foam to fit into the basket by tracing the bottom of the basket into the foam with the craft knife, then cutting it out. Arrange the candle(s) in the center of the cut piece of foam and trace their bottoms with the craft knife. Cut out the spots for the candle(s).
5Use an ample amount of floral tape to secure the floral foam to the bottom of the basket. Once the foam has been secured, use floral tape or craft glue to secure the candle(s) to the basket. Use small pieces of foam to fill any empty spots between the cut out areas of the foam and the candle(s).
6Work on one side of the centerpiece and choose one of the largest flowers for the middle. Push it firmly into the foam, until it is at the desired height. If the stems are too long, cut them with wire cutters for a better fit. Work out from the center to the end, positioning each flower securely in the foam. Duplicate the same layout on the opposite side of the centerpiece. For the ends of the arrangement, work first on one side, then the other in the same manner.
7Fill in any empty spaces with the smaller flowers. Bend and twist flowers and leaves into place until you have achieved the desired look. The completed centerpiece should be lush and full, yet not overcrowded.
8Make a bow using wired-edged ribbon that coordinates with your arrangement. Tie the wire at the end of the floral pick to the back of the bow. Anchor the floral pick in the desired spot in the centerpiece.
