How to Be a Good Busser

How to Be a Good Busser

Bussers are essentially support staff workers for the food service industry. While specific duties vary from restaurant to restaurant, bussing can be extremely fast-paced and demanding. Tip sharing among the wait staff and bussers is very common. Busy restaurants often employ bussers and have them work during peak serving times throughout the day or night. Hard work and a thorough job will increase the likeliness of earning more tips and advancement to higher paying positions within the restaurant.

Instructions

    1

Clear any dishes and set tables as soon as the customers leave the restaurant. Clean food particles off the chairs and pick up any large debris left on the floor.

    2

Bring all dishes to the dish-washing area and frequently empty as well as clean buss tubs and carts. Assist the wait staff by proactively clearing off unneeded dishes from customer tables, as this practice will give customers more room on the table and make the job of resetting the table after they leave easier.

    3

Restock linens, forks, knives and condiments during any downtime. Help the kitchen staff by frequently emptying trash receptacles and restocking glassware.

    4

Help the wait staff by bringing out food or drink items to the customers if a server falls behind in her duties. Ask the wait person if he needs any help with a particular duty, if you have extra time on your hands.

    5

Always show a good attitude towards the restaurant employees as well as the customers. Groom thoroughly and keep work uniforms in good condition.
