How to Make Your Own Pedestal From Cardboard

During the Victorian era pedestals were popular in the home. They allowed the homeowner to have a small table where statutes and plants were placed on display. Today pedestals are used for a variety of decorating needs, including for wedding floral arrangements and gifts. Pedestals are available in a variety of sizes and shapes for weddings. However, you can make your own wedding pedestals out of cardboard simply and significantly save on costs.

Instructions

Box

    1

Push the flaps of a cardboard box in on the top and bottom of the box. Push the shortest flaps in first, then the longer flaps. Pushing the flaps in on both ends with provide stability for your pedestal.

    2

Tape the flaps down on both ends of the box with duct tape.

    3

Measure the box openings on both ends, width and length. Although a cardboard box should have the same measurements on the top and bottom openings, this may not necessarily be so. Therefore, it is important to measure the openings individually.

Top and Bottom

    4

Cut out two pieces of cardboard for the top of the box and two pieces of cardboard for the bottom of the box with a utility knife. Use your measurements as a guide and make your top and bottom pieces for the pedestal wider and longer than your box opening measurements by at least 2-inches.

    5

Glue the two pieces of cardboard you cut out for the top of the box together with craft glue. You are doubling the top of the pedestal for strength. Allow the glue to completely dry.

    6

Glue the two pieces of cardboard together you cut out for the bottom of the pedestal with craft glue. Allow the glue to completely dry.

Complete

    7

Squeeze out a bead of craft glue all along the edges of the top opening of the cardboard box. Lay your cardboard pedestal top on top of the box, centering the top on the box and pressing down firmly so the glue adheres to the cardboard. Allow the glue to completely dry.

    8

    Turn the pedestal upside down.

    9

Squeeze out a bead of craft glue all along the edges of the opening on the bottom of the pedestal and lay your cardboard pedestal bottom on top of the edges, centering it and pressing down firmly. Allow the glue to completely dry.

    10

Turn the pedestal right side up.

    11

Paint your pedestal with spray paint in the color of your choice. Paint outside for safety.
